Frequently asked questions
What is AdHUD?AdHUD is an entirely new and revolutionary Second Life advertising network. It pays users money to watch interactive ads displayed on a HUD attachment. Most people, when they first hear it explained, respond “oh, it’s like a mobile camping chair”. Close, but a mobile camping chair that displays ads directly in a Second Life user’s viewport. How do I get AdHUD? What does it cost? The AdHUD HUD device is free, never pay for an AdHUD device. Visit AdHUD HQ @ Glenboon (215, 212, 104). Click the red orb, and you will receive a copy of the latest version of AdHUD. How do I give AdHUD?You can give it to a friend directly, as you would any other inventory item. Or your friend can visit AdHUD HQ @ Glenboon (215, 212, 104) and get a copy from the free vendor there. You can also use the sharing feature built in to the AdHUD. See the AdHUD user instructions for more details. How do I use AdHUD?AdHUD is simple and easy to use. AdHUD user instructions How much do ads cost?Ads are currently sold at a flat rate per impression. We currently have very low introductory rates. Contact us for a rate quote and to start advertising with AdHUD. You will be put in touch with an AdHUD sales agent who can quote you rates, help you get started, and manage your Ad. How many users will see my ad?As of mid January 1000 impressions should reach about 500 unique users. Our most popular ad has been viewed by over 1000 users. As the AdHUD user base grows, 1000 impressions should reach approximately 1000 users. How many users does AdHUD have? Do you have demographic data?As of early February we have 9000 users. The average AdHUD user is 60 days old. 30% have payment information on file. AdHUD users are mostly new users, who supplement AdHUD income with premium stipends and camping chair revenue. They are new to Second Life, hungry for new, fashionable products, and have money to spend. How long will my ad run?As AdHUD is growing rapidly at the moment, it is impossible to say how long a particular ad will run. Each user consumes one ad impression every 5 minutes, and all ads have an equal probability of being displayed. So the length of time a particular ad lasts depends on the total number of active users, the length of time each user spends using AdHUD, and the total number of ads in the system. Each one of those quantities is changing rapidly at the moment. In the future, as the user and advertising base stabilizes, we will provide detailed overall ad life-cycle statistics. This is not possible at the moment. This is one of the reasons we have very low, introductory rates, and signup bonuses. How much does AdHUD pay the user? How do I get paid?AdHUD must be attached to your HUD to enable payment. AdHUD pays at a rate of $1L per every 15 minutes. After 15 minutes of wearing the AdHUD, click the ad to display the main menu. Click the (Collect $1) button and you will be paid $1L. The (Collect $1) button constantly moves, to prevent scripted AdHUD stipend collection. The payment frequency is enforced at all levels of the AdHUD architecture. Any attempts to gain payment at a higher than the posted rate will result in an error. I clicked the collect button and nothing happened?AdHUD will always message you with the reason for non-payment. Currently there are several reasons you might not get paid. The simplest is the fact that you are over the 24 hour payment limit. AdHUD has a maximum amount it will pay in any 24 hour period. The second reason for non-payment is if you somehow try to collect at faster than the posted payment rate. For example, if you wear 3 AdHUDs. This won't work, and you will get an error message for any attempt at payments faster than the posted rate. The final reason you might not get paid, is that AdHUD has a temporary user cap. Although new users can join, after the cap has been reached, they will not be able to get paid, until the cap is raised. AdHUD's infrastructure is partially located within Second Life. If Second Life has stability issues, AdHUD might not function properly, possibly resulting in lost payment. If this happens, we suggest trying again later. We cannot be responsible for lost payments. We will do everything in our power to make sure the AdHUD network is functioning properly and paying our users. I hear there is a referral bonus. How does that work?Every time you share AdHUD with another user, you become eligible for a referral bonus of up to $20L. Each time a user who you've given AdHUD is paid, you will be paid the same amount, up to $20L. I gave AdHUD to a friend and I have not gotten my $20L. What gives? The referral bonus is up to $20L. We send you $1L every time we send your friend $1L, for the first 20 payments. If your friend doesn't use AdHUD, you don't get paid. I get an error message saying I am over the daily limit? Why is that? There is a daily limit to the user stipend. If you receive this error message, you must wait until later to receive payment. The payment limit is based on the total amount of payment for the last 24 hours. I received an AdHUD but when I wear it, I get an error message saying that the AdHUD network has reached its user limit. What's the deal? The AdHUD network has a maximum user threshhold to limit the total user payouts. This will eventually be removed once there is enough advertising revenue to support the user base. But until then the user limit will remain to limit the burn rate. I don't want this thing, why did you spam me with it?AdHUD users are able to share AdHUD with other Second Life users. We heavily discourage spamming other users with AdHUD. You should always make sure that the people you give AdHUD to know they are going to get it, and want a copy. DO NOT share it with users unsolicited. If you've gotten AdHUD from somebody else, and don't want it, contact us. We will research to see if a user is spamming, and take action to warn the user, or terminate their account. |
